Caulking Systems

Fire Stopping is the use of UL systems to prevent the spread of fire and smoke from one area of a building to another. Typical areas of concern include the bottom and top of wall assemblies, edge of q-decking, and penetrations where pipes, wires, and vents travel between rooms or units.

Our trained professionals ensure all firestopping and caulking contracts are completed to specifications in order to return the assemblies to their original rated fire resistance.

Fire Stopping Methods

Methodologies

While firestopping is generally noted in the architectural documents and is always required when a building has fire-rated walls/ceilings, it’s rare for architects to detail a specific firestopping method or material that must be installed. Training is invaluable for choosing the best product for an application, passing inspection, and reducing labour and material costs.

There are many types of firestopping methodologies and products available today as detailed below.

Fire Stopping Materials

Firestopping trends today point toward installing preformed materials versus making or applying materials.

Manufacturers offer  compressible intumescing foam strips that are much quicker to apply than sprays or caulks for firestopping dynamic and static head-of-wall, bottom-of-wall and wall-to-wall fire-resistive joints. Pipe penetrations, there are preformed sleeves and collars that can save job labour costs.
